Taking a Stand

Stand for Sustainable Development & Poverty Eradication

Rooted in the 2007 IPA mission direction statement, worldwide Presentation sisters, associates and friends of Nano strive to act in accord with their commitment:

  • Conscious of our identity as Presentation women, we listen deeply to the cry of Earth heard most loudly in the cry of those made poor…
  • IPA Global Issue:  Addressing the root causes of poverty by confronting personal and corporate greed which exploit Earth, her people and the whole community of life.

What is Rio+20?
Rio +20 is a United Nations Conference which aims to secure renewed political commitment for sustainable development, assess the progress to date and the remaining gaps in the implementation of the outcomes of the major summits on sustainable development, and address new and emerging challenges. The conference will focus on two main themes:

  • A green economy in the context of sustainable development and poverty eradication
  • The international structures to promote sustainable development

Take Action
Three PBVMS will participate in the UN Rio +20 Conference. These women seek input from you on the document The Future We Want. Please reflect on the following link and send your responses to the following questions to Sister Joetta Venneman by March 30.

The Future We Want

  • What are 3 significant points that reflect IPA values?
  • What 3 significant points need to be added that will reflect the IPA global issue of confronting personal and corporate greed which exploit Earth, her people and the whole community of life?
