Stand for Sustainable Development and Poverty Eradication
During the 2007 IPA Assembly in India, Presentation Sisters throughout the world stated:
- Conscious of our identity as Presentation women, we listen deeply to the cry of Earth heard most loudly in the cry of those made poor…
- We will address the root causes of poverty especially by confronting personal and corporate greed
Three Presentation Sisters will participate in the UN Rio+20 Conference which aims to secure renewed political commitment for sustainable development, assess the progress to date and the remaining gaps in the implementation of the outcomes of the major summits on sustainable development and address new and emerging challenges. Stand for Immigration Reform
Postville, Iowa's Immigration Raid on Agriprocessors on May 12, 2008 brought the national focus on the immigration to Iowa. That day some 900 agents, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) executed a raid on the nation's largest kosher slaughterhouse and meat packing plant. The raid was the largest single-site operation of its kind in American history as of 2008.
We join others who annually protest in Postville on May 12 and continue to be supportive of the victims of the raid.
We minister to and with immigrants in the following locations:
- Lantern Center, Dubuque IA
- Hispanic Ministry, Dubuque IA
- Guadalupe Center, Juanita FL
- Hill City, South Dakota
- Caminando Juntos ministry in collaboration with Sisters of the Presentation from Aberdeen, South Dakota
Stand for Peace
Since 2003, a small band of sisters have committed themselves to becoming a public presence for peace. These sisters represent all of us as we commit ourselves to a prayerful, spiritual approach and to peace and nonviolence in our war torn world. Every Tuesday, weather permitting, these sisters stand on a busy street corner witnessing to peace. When the weather is too harsh, they pray for peace in the convent chapel. As a community we commit ourselves to the prophetic call to stand for peace.
Stand for Closing the School of Americas
The Sisters of the Presentation have had a long standing history of supporting the School of Americas Watch which is a nonviolent grassroots movement that works to stand in solidarity with the people of Latin America, to close the SOA/WHINSEC and to change oppressive U.S. foreign policy that the SOA represents. Sisters, associates and Presentation Quest Participants stand with thousands from around the world to stand for peace.
