50th Jubilarians Celebrate Prayer to Action
July 17, 2014
On July 17, nine Presentation Sisters celebrated their 50th Jubilee at the Presentation motherhouse surrounded by their community, associates and employees. This celebration marked the beginning of their annual Community Gathering. The energy within the Sacred Heart Chapel set the mood for the planning days to come.
Sisters Diana Blong, Cheryl Demmer, Richelle Friedman, Suzanne Gallagher, Elena Hoye, Sharon Kelchen, Beth Kress, Corine Murray and Pamela Quade renewed their vows together. Their theme was "Draw Water Joyfully." This theme was carried throughout the celebration and into a call to action. The Golden Jubilarians are profoundly grateful for the living water that has quenched their thirst for 50 years. Just like the Samaritain woman in their gospel reading, the group had a deep call to action by supporting a project called "Water with Blessings."
This project enhances the capacity of local people to solve their need for safe water by utilizing a filtration device. The Jubiliarians have chosen to partner with Presentation Sisters in Bolivia to provide water purification kits to the Guarani people there. In thanksgiving, the sisters hope to send 50 kits to Bolivia, each kit costing $50.
During their jubilee celebration, the Golden Jubiliarians demonstrated the water filtration device by collecting dirty pond water from the Presentation pond and pouring it through the filtration device. The results were astonishing as the dirty water changed to crystal clear water - drinkable water as demonstrated by Sister Elena Hoye. Those assembly were both moved and empowered to take action. Already almost 20 kits are raised.
