In Memory of Sister Kathleen Dolphin
August 28, 1941 - November 16, 2017
Sister Kathleen Dolphin (formerly Sister Mary Augustine), 76, daughter of Earl and Inez (Anderson), was born Kathleen Joan Dolphin on August 28, 1941, in Chicago, Illinois. She entered the Sisters of the Presentation in September of 1959 and professed her perpetual vows on August 22, 1967.
She received a Bachelor of Arts from Clarke University in Dubuque, Iowa, a Master of Arts from both the University of Montana in Missoula, and from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska, and a Doctorate from the School of Divinity at the University of Chicago.
Sister Kathleen’s ministries, spanning 54 years, took her to Ryan, Waukon, Mason City, Ames and Dubuque, all in Iowa where she taught and worked in campus ministry and spiritual direction. She served as vocation director and in congregational leadership, was a professor of pastoral theology at Loyola University in Chicago, and for 13 years served as the director for the Center for Spirituality at Saint Mary’s College, Notre Dame. She celebrated her 50th Jubilee in 2009 and retired to Mount Loretto in 2013.
Sister Kathleen was blessed with a terrific sense of humor and a lively spirit of adventure. She was a life-long learner, theologian, scientist and educator. A born teacher, she was dearly loved by her students. She was a national and international speaker and writer. As a world traveler, some of the countries she visited included Bolivia, Ireland, China, Sri Lanka, Australia, Russia, Portugal and Spain.
Surviving are her sister, Linda Dolphin, her brother, James (Melinda), a sister-in-law, Mary Lane, nieces, nephews and the Sisters of the Presentation with whom she shared her life for 58 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother Dennis.
Memorials may be made to the Sisters of the Presentation, 2360 Carter Road, Dubuque, Iowa, 52001, or online at www.dubuquepresentations.org.
