Lantern Light: New Orleans, Louisiana
In August 2003, a group of eight North American Presentation congregations initiated a Collaborative Ministry Project to meet the needs of the poor, homeless and underserved in New Orleans, Louisiana. Lantern Light, Inc. was to begin in September 2005.
Hurricane Katrina delayed the project's start date. Just weeks after Katrina, however, Presentation sisters from various congregations arrived to address catastrophic needs in Tulane County, one of the poorest counties in the United States. Volunteer opportunities include serving daily lunch, extending hospitality to the homeless and stocking the food pantry.
