Sponsoring
a specific Presentation sister in her ministry:
Many Presentation
sisters have chosen the challenging opportunity of ministering among
the poor, but are often not compensated enough to meet community needs.
The ministry of many Presentation sisters are totally or partially
supported by your generous donations. You, partnering with one of our
sisters,
can bring light to many places throughout the United States and Bolivia.
Bolivia
Each year the
people of Bolivia suffer from hunger and disease caused by poor sanitation
and living conditions. Sisters Julianne Brockamp, Therese Marie
Hawes, Maura McCarthy, Mery Cary Paz and Suzanne Takes brighten the lives
of many Bolivians by engaging in education, housing initiatives and leadership
programs. They work to shelter the homeless, heal the sick and empower
the weak.
New
Orleans, LA
In 2005, Sister
Beth Driscoll joined four other Presentation
sisters to serve through St. Joseph Outreach Program in New Orleans,
LA, in Tulane County, one of the poorest counties in the
United States. Since
the Katrina hurricane, their work consists of delivering food
to the hungry and walking the streets in order to be a
presence among the homeless and underserved.
Okolona,
MS
A lack of education
extinguishes dreams and goals. In 1994, Sister Jean Ann
Meyer was assigned
to serve as a teacher for the EXCEL program in Okolona, MS. Her
involvement in the EXCEL program opens the door to knowledge through
educational
services and programs for
children
and their families. Through her commitment to education, she ignites
a light that burns forever in the eyes of children.
Dubuque,
IA
When a person
has no means to feed her family, it feels as though she could be swallowed
up by the darkness of desperation. At the Dubuque Community Food Pantry,
Sister Lynn Mary Wagner strives to shed some light into this darkness by
distributing food and supplies to the hungry. This ministry provides a
safety net of hope and relief.
