Sisters, Associates, Family, Friends in Brief


• Sister Agnes Marie Lynch attended a weeklong workshop sponsored by the Iowa State Department for the Blind in Des Moines this April. The program consisted of classes in daily living, beginning Braille, using a white cane and crafts. “I appreciated this experience and the opportunity to talk and share with others who are blind or visually impaired,” said Sister Agnes Marie. Sister will continue with another program where a rehabilitation teacher visits her monthly.

• Congratulations to Sister Joan Lickteig who was selected for inclusion in the 2007 Who’s Who in America for her outstanding achievements.

• Elizabeth Adler, daughter-in-law of Associate Judy Schwartz, was chosen as the Winner of the 2006 American Medical Writers Association Medical Book Award in the Trade category for a book she wrote about her experience after being diagnosed with lymphoma.

• For a third year, Sisters United News (SUN) is a winner of the Best Practices award by the National Communicators Network for Women Religious. The 2006 recognition is for working with leadership in a Collaborative Project/Special Event Planning entitled “A Celebration of Women’s Leadership: A Celebration of Sisterhood,” commemorating the LCWR 50th anniversary. The 2006 Best Practices award was presented at the NCNWR annual conference in San Antonio, TX, on October 1. Sisters Beth Kress, PBVM, and Mira Mosle, BVM, represented SUN in receiving the award and giving a presentation of the project.

• On September 21, the International Day of Peace, Presentation sisters gathered in the motherhouse chapel to pray for peace. The International Presentation Association sponsored a Circle of Prayer. During the 24 hour peace vigil, Presentation sisters and associates around the world prayed for peace.
