Community Welcomes New Associate Co-Director

Karla Berns of Dubuque, a long time friend of the Sisters of the Presentation, has accepted the position of co-director of the associate process. She joins Co-director Sister Lynn Mary Wagner. Billie Greenwood has served as co-director for over two years. Billie and her husband are leaving Dubuque to further their ministry to the poor in the southern United States.

Karla served on the founding Advisory Board of the Presentation associates from 1998 to 2002. She is retired from Northeast Iowa Community College where she held various positions from faculty member to vice-president. Since retirement three years ago, Karla volunteers regularly at the Presentation Lantern Center and is actively involved in her parish, presently serving as parish council chairperson. She enjoys golfing, crocheting and reading.

The transition of leadership with the associate process is going very smoothly. “Billie brought excellent organizational skills to the position with the computerization of many of the materials,” says Karla. “We are grateful to Billie for her leadership and we wish her well in her expanded ministry.”

“It is an inspiration and joy to see the commitment and work of the associate groups,” comments Karla. As an example, she notes one group making tied blankets for the needy, working at the food pantry and assisting with the garage sale.

Karla plans to work with the advisory board to further refine the associate process, to promote membership, and to listen to the expressed needs of the associates on an ongoing basis. “With 87 associates represented in seven states and an expectation of several new commitments this next month, we are well on our way in helping to further the Presentation mission and charism,” she said.
