The history of the Sisters of the Presentation in Dubuque traces back to Cork, Ireland in the year 1775 when Nano Nagle, our foundress, established a community of four, known as Sisters of Charitable Instruction of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The change to our present title occurred in 1871. Now Presentation communities are scattered throughout the world; there are presently eight foundations in the United States and Newfoundland. As Sisters of the Presentation we believe that the Gospel of Jesus Christ is to be proclaimed in our time. Origins: Nano Nagle founded the Sisters of the Presentation in Ireland in 1775 to minister to the poor. Mother Vincent Hennessy journeyed to Iowa in 1874 to teach the children of Irish immigrants. A total of 141 sisters are involved in educational and pastoral ministries, community prayer and service and formation of new members. We are located in urban and rural USA, and in Entre Rios and Timboy, Bolivia.
Worldwide, 2979 Presentation Sisters and 700 PBVM associates work in twenty-three countries and network globally through the International Presentation Association.
